I'm back!
3 glorious months off. One awesome wedding. Now it's already school time again. That was the fastest 3 months ever.
We were due to get our wedding pictures last Friday. We'll get them up after we sift through them all.
Kristy and I also will have a new domain name - hornerclan.com. A clan is two or more people by the way, before you start getting any ideas. We'll get it going once we get our other websites done. Then you can watch us argue online. Fun!

Congrats Amber!

Congrats to my 8th grade golfer Amber Piatz for winning the Region 1 Girls Golf Championship yesterday. Amber has steadily improved all year, and shot an 88 (a blistering 41 on the back 9) to claim top prize. She worked hard and she deserves it.
I had to marshal a group of golfers yesterday. It was quite interesting to say the least, as I was assigned the 2nd-to-last group. That is pretty much each school's #6 golfers. Besides getting missed by less than two inches by a golf ball while sitting on the #6 tee, I also almost got hit when a girl in my group hit an errant tee shot that hit a tree and flew back at me. Thank goodness for my cat-like reflexes.
However, that wasn't the highlight of the day. On the #7 par-3, one golfer hit a tee shot that squirmed about 2 feet right. Not forward, but right. Next to the tee marker. So she's actually further away for her 2nd shot. Here's how the rest of her hole went.
(hitting 2) - Out of bounds.
(drop 3, hit 4) - Hit under a tree and an unplayable lie. 2 club lengths with stroke penalty.
(drop 5, hit 6) - Out of bounds.
(drop 7, hit 8) - I am looking for one of her shots in the ditch while she's hitting. I turn around and realize she chunked it into the same tree, creating another unplayable lie. 2 club lengths, stroke penalty. That means
(drop 9, hit 10) - Realize she's still 20 yards off the tee. It takes her another 4-5 shots to get to the green and 2-3 putts.
I am amazed that she is sticking with it, and am actually rooting for her. She's a great kid, and my heart went out to her. I ask what she got on the hole, and she replies, "12".
12, I'll give it to you kid.

Proud Uncle and Auntie
I also wanted to take this time to mention that Kristy and I are proud godparents of our new nephew Liam. We had his baptism last weekend, and I think he's the bomb. Here are some pics of the little tike.
No DNA test needed
Something was brought to my attention about the pictures of the triplets getting measured for tuxes. If you look closely, you'll see Cade in the mirror checking out his butt. He is definitely one of Matt's offspring. Like father, like son. Except Matt would be checking out his junk. Give Cade time....
One more week to go!
Today is the last week of school. My has the time flown by.
Actually saying I have week of school is somewhat misleading.
Tuesday we have girls regionals in Ashley.
Thursday we are in Linton for boys regionals.
Friday is the last day, and no one ever does anything the last day.
And today is over.
So basically, I am down to one day left.
Yeah, that seems more accurate.

Gettin' Fitted
Last week Matt brought in Jenna and the triplets for measuring, since they all are going to be in our wedding. It was quite the adventure. Actually, they all did very well, despite Uncle Horner's attempts to rile them up. We only knocked over 3 mannequins that day.
Here are some pictures of the event.

Another great McFeely article
Coach knocking on NBA’s front doorMIKE McFEELY The Forum •
Sports - 05/03/2007
The path would be unprecedented, of that we can be sure. From Staples, Minn., to Concordia to Minnesota State Moorhead to the hinterlands of minor-league basketball to the NBA. This is not the way Pat Riley became a hall of fame coach.
For Dave Joerger, it is the goal. The former Cobbers and Dragons point guard, his last season at MSUM was a decade ago, keeps adding to a minorleague coaching resume that already has more titles than Blockbuster. When Bismarck’s Dakota Wizards beat the Colorado 14ers to win the NBA Development League championship last week, it was Joerger’s fifth title in basketball’s bush leagues.
Joerger has won championships in the International Basketball Association, the Continental Basketball Association and the D-League. He’s won them in Bismarck and Sioux Falls, S.D. He’s won them as a 27-year-old fuzzy-cheeked youngster and as a grizzled 33-year-old veteran.
In his perfect world, Joerger wouldn’t win another. He wants out. Nothing against Bismarck or the minor leagues, but he has bigger plans.
“We’ll hopefully be sitting on an NBA bench sometime soon,” Joerger said.
The short-term goal is to become an NBA assistant. The long-term goal you can figure out, we’re sure. Tuesday was Career Day at the Joerger house, with the resume getting a polish and the portfolio getting stuffed with the latest newspaper articles proclaiming the Wizards as champions. NBA general managers can expect
their copies in the mail soon.
It won’t be the first time they’ve heard from Joerger, who played high school ball at Staples-Motley. He’s been trying to crack the NBA circle for a few years now, figuring that all those victories in the minors would count for something. Surely they do, just not with the right person yet.
Getting antsy, Dave?
“Yeah, but I was more antsy a couple of years ago. We didn’t know how to handle ourselves. Now we don’t lay awake at night wondering if we’re going to get an NBA job,” Joerger said. “I have a great agent who I trust is doing all he can for me and I’ll continue to network. I feel like I’ve done enough (to warrant a chance in the NBA). We’ve served both purposes of minorleague basketball. We’ve advanced players’ careers -- 18 call-ups in the last four years -- and we’ve won. Some guys do
both, some don’t.”
While there is no doubting the resume, Joerger is lacking three letters critical to landing a job in Sacramento or Portland or Charlotte.
Those would be N, B and A.
Joerger didn’t play in the league, doesn’t have that direct connection. He knows people, but isn’t part of the club. In a world where who you know is vastly more important than what you know (two words: Kevin McHale), this is the Yao Ming of hurdles.
“No question. When they talk about former players becoming assistants, they are talking about former NBA players as if nobody else ever played the game,” Joerger said. “It can be frustrating.”
Hey, some trails are not easy to blaze. Staples to the NBA would rank near the top of that list.

T-Minus 12 days
Things have really been quite busy around here. No I'm not making it up. Two weekends ago, we went out to Minneapolis for Jackson's baptism and got back around midnight on Sunday.
Last weekend we had our weekend marriage prepartion classes (which really weren't all that bad). That ended Saturday. The Wizards won their championship Sunday, which was just amazing.
This weekend we have Brayden's 1st birthday party and Liam's baptism.
Sandwich in 2-3 golf meets a week, add the fact that we are now moving our things back to Bismarck, and my college classes are at finals time, that means things are crazy.
But only 12 days left. Thought you would all like to know that.
